Abstract:

In this talk we report on an on-going analysis of store-level inventory and sales data from a retailer. The focus of the analysis is to understand the relative store performance on out-of-stocks and inventory utilization.  In particular, we examine three questions:  (1) what are the factors or drivers that explain the out-of-stock occurrences across the stores?  (2) Why do high-performing stores experience a higher out-of-stock rate than low-performing stores? And (3) what inventory investments might have the greatest impact on out-of-stocks?
