"Part of the reason I'm at the Carlson School," says Christopher Curry, "is to gather a theoretical basis for the different disciplines that are part of an MBA program, for what I've seen experientially in practice, supporting those areas as a lawyer."

As general counsel and secretary at Gage Group and Gage Marketing Group, LLC, Christopher is pursuing an MBA in order to develop a deeper theoretical understanding of business.

"In practice, when you look at an overall strategy and business operation, or how an organization really works, you often lack the theoretical constructs that give you the ability to put it together in a more thoughtful, insightful way."

Christopher was interested in the Carlson School because of the quality of the instruction, the flexibility of the Part-Time MBA program, and the breadth of the curriculum. He has also come to enjoy the classroom discussions.

"There's a diverse mix in each class," he says, "so you get different perspectives on the same issue, which helps you understand the various business disciplines in a corporation."

According to Christopher, the core course in strategic management was one of the most insightful, well-instructed classes he has ever taken. "The professor combined poignant theoretical insights with contemporary business contexts in which we applied and discussed the principles," he says. "It was really an effective way to learn."
