Transferring Coursework

The Graduate School strictly enforces the policy that limits the number of credits that can be applied toward your MBT degree to 12 with respect to all credits completed before you become an official degree candidate. This limit includes both "transfer" credits taken at another institution and any MBT courses you may have taken prior to your admittance to the program. In order to determine whether you are eligible to transfer coursework from another institution to your MBT degree, please contact the MBT office at (612) 624-7511 to schedule an appointment with the MBT director.

Work to be transferred from other institutions must be graduate level (postbaccalaureate), have been taken as graduate level work, and have been taught by faculty authorized to teach graduate courses. It is the student's responsibility to provide to the program appropriate course documentation (e.g., course syllabi, faculty status information) in support of the credits proposed to be transferred.

In the case of a transfer from a non-U.S. institution, the credits must have been earned in a program judged by the Graduate School to be comparable to a graduate degree program in a graduate school of a regionally-accredited institution in the United States.

Credits are transferred by including the courses in the proposed degree program. Credits not accepted as part of a student's degree program cannot be transferred to the Graduate School transcript.

Official transcripts of the work must be attached to the degree program form, unless they have already been included in the student's Graduate School file.

Courses taken before the award of the baccalaureate degree cannot be transferred.
