Recruiting

Carlson Automated Recruiting System (CARS)
The Carlson Automated Recruiting System (CARS) is the web-enabled student registration and resume posting system of the Business Career Center. Features include the ability to view:

  • Positions of companies interviewing on campus
  • Interview scheduling
  • Company research
  • Company contact database access
  • External job postings
  • Offers submitted

Access to the site is through your web browser at www.cars.csom.umn.edu (please use at least Netscape version 3.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0).

Carlson Recruiting Companies
This section lists the companies that recruit at the Carlson School of Management. Along with their name is the URL to research the company directly.

Corporate Info Sessions
Many companies hold information sessions prior to their on-campus interviews-typically the evening before. These sessions are extremely valuable from the standpoint of learning more about the company, as well as giving the candidate the opportunity to differentiate him/herself from other candidates. Both candidates on the interview schedule, as well as other interested candidates, should attend.

External Job Postings
One of the services available to Carlson students and alumni is the External Job Posting. Employers notify the BCC office of job openings, which are then posted to CARS. For each posting, you will see the company, position description, requirements and who to contact. You can sort them by various criteria, just as you can for on-campus postings.

As a student or alumnus of the Carlson School of Management, you are eligible to register and use CARS. To apply for a userid and password for CARS, please fill out our registration form.

The postings on External Job Postings are NOT a part of the on-campus recruiting process.

On-Campus Recruiting

Approximately 200 companies each year come to campus to interview Carlson School students. On-campus interviewing is generally heavy from fall through March. Carlson School students registered through CARS are eligible to interview on campus up to 3 months after graduation, and students may interview fall and spring semesters of the academic year in which they graduate.

  • On-Campus Recruitment Cycle
This section describes the timelinefor the typical job posting life cycle.
  • On-Campus Recruitment Policies
This section describes the policies of the Business Career Center in regards to On-Campus Recruiting. In this section you'll find:
    • Types of Interview Schedules
    • On-Campus Interview Sign-Up Procedures

Resume Search

The CARS resume search is a function within CARS that allows employers to search for students based on criteria they specify. Through CARS, employers are able to specify Degree, Emphasis, Skills, Languages or other criteria they are seeking in a candidate and get names and resumes of qualified individuals. A candidate should feel flattered when a company contacts them since this would indicate the company has been impressed by your resume and would like to pursue you further for an available position.
