Tipsfor Success

Career and Internship Fairs are a great way to meet recruiters, learn about companies, and expand your network.  However, if you are not prepared then you may waste your time, as well as the recruiter's time. Here are some tips on what to do before, during, and after the career fair to help you gain insights into attending businesses and leave a lasting impression upon the recruiters.

  • Learn more about companies attending.
  • Prepare questions you want employers to answer.
  • Bring multiple copies of your resume.
  • Dress for success! This is your chance to stand out among other students.
  • Approach recruiters - but don’t jump into a conversation the recruiter is having with another student.
  • Greet the recruiter with a firm handshake and maintain eye contact.
  • Communicate your interest by expressing your knowledge of the organization.
  • Listen and ask relevant questions – this is not the time to ask salary related questions.
  • Get appropriate contact information and ask for a business card.
  • Ask what the next step is if you are interested.
  • Send a thank you card and reconfirm your interest.
  • Attend company information sessions after the fair- sessions can be found on The Edge under "Career Events".
