Coming Home: Top Executive Mark Eustis discusses returning to Minnesota after 30 years to lead one of the state’s largest not-for-profit health care systems
MINNEAPOLIS —(June 1, 2008 )— Mark Eustis, president and CEO, Fairview Health Services, will speak at the Carlson School of Management’s First Tuesday Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at the University of Minnesota’s McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak St. S.E., Minneapolis. In his speech, “Coming Home,” Eustis will discuss his experiences returning to Minneapolis to assume the top leadership position at Fairview after living and working for 30 years in other parts of the country. He also will talk about the evolution and future of Fairview’s 10-year pioneering partnership with the University of Minnesota and the benefits of bringing together academics, research and clinical practice for patients and the community. Fairview is one of the state’s largest not-for-profit health care systems with more than 22,000 employees, seven hospitals, 44 primary care clinics, 55-plus specialty clinics , 28 pharmacies, home care and hospice services, rehabilitation services, senior housing facilities and more.
Two key hallmarks of Eustis’s 30-year career have been integrating academic medicine into community hospitals and strengthening relationships between the community, academic faculty and physicians. He joined Fairview in August 2007 from Ascension Health in St. Louis, Mo., where he was president of Regional Ministry Operations. Prior to that, he served Barnes Jewish Christian HealthCare as senior executive officer and was an adjunct faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis. He also served in roles of increasing responsibility at Detroit Medical Center and St. John Health in Detroit, Mich.
A native of Minnesota, Eustis attended the University of Minnesota, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in hospital and healthcare administration. He has been active in national and local health care-related organizations, including the American Hospital Association and Mid-America Transplant Services.
