Dr. Mark Kizilos, Carlson School’s New Assistant Dean for Executive Education, brings academic and industry experience to premier development program

MINNEAPOLIS — (June 10, 2008) Dr. Mark Kizilos recently assumed duties as the Carlson School of Management’s Assistant Dean for Executive Education. In his new position, Kizilos will lead the school’s Executive Education function, including its Open Enrollment and Custom Programs, which are designed and taught by Carlson School faculty and business professionals from across the country. He also will spearhead new educational offerings and create development solutions for corporate clients, executives, and individuals.

Kizilos brings over 15 years of experience in executive development and leadership education to his new position. Most recently, he worked at Thomson Corporation in Stamford, Conn., where he was the Vice President of Talent Management and Director of Executive Development. While at Thomson, he led Thomson University and co-authored an internal book profiling the developmental experiences of top company leaders. During his career, Kizilos also has worked as an Assistant Professor of Organizational Analysis at the University of Alberta in Canada and served in diverse leadership development roles at Hay Management Consultants, the Center for Leadership Solutions, and CVS/Pharmacy. He received his PhD in management and organization from the University of Southern California.

“I was attracted to this position because of the Carlson School’s great reputation and the opportunity to work with the Twin Cities business community,” Kizilos says. “I’m excited to be working with executives and managers from some of the top companies in the area and our world-class faculty members.” Kizilos is no stranger to the Carlson School's executive education activities since he has served on the Executive Education Board of Advisors and taught in the Talent Management Strategies Program.

This summer, Kizilos will provide his insights to a regional learning leadership summit. During the “Driving Learning in a Challenging Economy” program on July 17, he will participate in a panel discussion on what learning and training organizations must do in order to succeed in challenging economic times.

For over 35 years, Executive Education has fostered a tradition of partnership with the Twin Cities business community and offered exceptional developmental programs which are continually rated among the finest programs in the world. The International University Consortium (UNICON) certified Executive Education as a quality provider of executive programs, one of about 70 “first-tier” providers in the world. In 2006, Financial Times ranked it 4th in the U.S. for general management programs and 15th in the U.S. for custom programs.
