Sherron Watkins to speak at 2009 Carlson School of Management

MINNEAPOLIS —(April 20, 2009)—Sherron Watkins, former vice president of Enron Corporation and whistleblower, will speak at the Carlson School of Management’s commencement ceremonies on May 18 at Northrop Memorial Auditorium, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Watkins is an author, lecturer and consultant on leadership and organizational behavior.
She alerted Enron’s CEO, Ken Lay, in August 2001 to accounting irregularities within the company, warning him that Enron ‘might implode in a wave of accounting scandals.’  She has testified before Congressional Committees from the House and Senate investigating Enron’s demise.  TIME magazine named Watkins one of its 2002 Persons of the Year for being someone “who did right just by doing their jobs rightly.” In recognition of her outstanding demonstration of ethics in the work place, Watkins has received numerous honors.

At the May 18 ceremonies, Watkins will address the graduate class at 9 a.m. and the undergraduate class at 1 p.m. For more information, visit www.carlsonschool.umn.edu/commencement.
