The Carlson School was ranked 32 in the new regional ranking released by the Wall Street Journal on September 22. This ranking is based exclusively on a survey of recruiters. This year, for the first time, the ranking was split into a national list (the top 19) and a regional list (the top 44). With this year's split in the rankings taken into account, our position is approximately the same as when the Carlson School ranked 49 in the list of top 50 schools.

Belinda Jensen of KARE-11 to Emcee the “Battle of the Brains”
Belinda Jensen, anchor at KARE-11 television, will emcee the first annual Carlson School Battle of the Brains on Tuesday, October 19 at noon. The event is a fundraiser for the University’s 2004 Community Fund Drive, which hopes to raise $1 million this year for a broad range of Minnesota charities. The Carlson School aims for 65% participation with a series of events to boost excitement about the school's participation, including the October 5 breakfast, the quiz bowl, a putt-putt golf event, and a Halloween party.
The Battle of the Brains will pit a team of Carlson School faculty against a team of staff members on their knowledge of a variety of esoteric facts. The losing team will make a contribution to a local charity.
Carlson School faculty will be represented by professors John Boyd, Judy Rayburn, Stefanie Lenway, Mike Houston, and Bob Ruekert. Staff will be represented by Carleen Kerttula, Bill Scheurer, Chris Mayr, Mary Maus Kosir, and Dave Hopkins.
“I hear that Bob Ruekert is already spending his lunch hour studying in the library reference room,” notes Dave Hopkins, director of the Carlson Brand Enterprise and staff team member. “Clearly, the faculty team is running scared.”
“We’ll see who stumbles on questions like the number of home runs hit by Hank Aaron, or the capital of Madagascar,” replied faculty team member Mike Houston, associate dean for international programs. “Don’t forget to bring your checkbook, Dave.”
The Elite Eight Comes to the Carlson School
The Carlson School welcomes the Elite Eight Brand Management Case Challenge on November 4, 5, and 6. This three-day competition and discussion series highlights the challenges facing brand managers in today's competitive marketplace. Top brand management MBA students, professionals, and academics from across the country participate at this nationally known event.
Eight student teams, representing top MBA programs from across the country, are presented with a strategic brand management challenge currently faced by a partner company. The teams are given 36 hours to prepare a structured case analysis and accompanying recommendations. They present these findings to a panel of expert judges who critically assess students’ brand management, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Following the conclusion of all presentations, the participants and partners attend a social hour and awards banquet.
The Carlson School of Management is joined by the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, the Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles, the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, the Kellogg School of Management, the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley; the University of Michigan Business School; and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania
