Part-Time MBACommunity

With over 10,000 alumni, the Carlson Part-Time MBA program has deep roots in the global business community. Students and alumni find numerous opportunities to connect with faculty, industry leaders and each other through networking events, student organizations, corporate luncheons, and a variety of other social occasions.

Networking

Networking breaks provide an opportunity for students to meet and connect with fellow classmates, faculty, and staff. These events include snacks and beverages and are offered several times each semester during regular class breaks. First Tuesdays are a speaker series where successful business leaders discuss their perspectives with MBA students. First Fridays are purely social events for MBA students which usually take place at a local bar or club.

StudentOrganizations

Part-Time MBA students can become involved in a wide range of organizations, clubs, and committees that provide opportunities for leadership development and networking beyond the classroom. A few examples:

Part-Time MBA Leadership Advisory Board serves as a liaison between the students and Carlson School leadership and acts as a strategic advisory board to improve the quality, value, and community of the Part-Time MBA Program.

The Board serves a leadership role within the program by:

  • Being a voice to and from the Carlson School leadership and the students
  • Making recommendations on program enhancements (facilities, curriculum, communications, student services, assessment, etc)
  • Hosting biannual feedback sessions with students and Carlson School Deans

Ambassador Committee gives current students a chance to interact with prospective students and program alumni. Students work with the admissions staff to design recruiting opportunities and events.

Black Graduate Business Student Alliance encourages a cohesive community for black students within the Carlson School. Members are devoted to providing an academic support system and implementing a network that unites graduate and professional students through social networks, professional development, and partnerships with corporate sponsors.

Ventures Plus provides MBA students interested in entrepreneurship with the opportunity to network with each other, alumni and members from the business community.  Speakers are brought in monthly to discuss different aspects of an entrepreneurial enterprise.

Compass provides networking opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students and their allies, while seeking to educate the workplace on GLBT issues for the school and the university community.

National Association of Women MBAs encourages women to pursue business as a course of study at the graduate level and pursue careers in business. NAWMBA hosts professional speakers, networking events, and fundraisers, while participating in a variety of community service activities.

Networking Committee provides opportunities for leadership development and executive networking beyond the classroom; develops and delivers yearly co-curricular events and social/networking activities.
