FBI Comes to the Carlson School for Leadership Symposium
The 32nd Annual Crime Laboratory Development Symposium, “Improving Crime Laboratory Efficiency,” began on Monday, August 30.
Brian Muirhead, the project manager for the Mars Pathfinder Mission, spoke before 275 FBI crime lab directors and managers. A national leadership expert, Muirhead spoke on Tuesday, August 31. He shared his strategy on building a high-performance team and being a leader in innovation to foster creative solutions.
Crime lab directors and managers from around the nation partner with Carlson School faculty and with national business leaders to learn tools to elevate the efficiency of their team and organization.
For three days, state, county, and local crime lab managers attend seminars, workshops, and panels focusing on three areas of efficiency: self, team, and system. Sessions include such topics as conflict management, emotional competency, process improvement, high performance coaching, and planning and processing improvement.
After a competition with other elite schools, the Carlson Executive Development Center was selected for the second year to host the conference.
A New President for the Alumni Advisory Board
Mark Stoering, MBA ’93, is the incoming president of the Alumni Advisory Board. A board member since 2001, Stoering will work to grow our local and national outreach efforts. He is vice-president of portfolio strategy and business development at Xcel Energy.
In addition to providing leadership for Xcel, Stoering promotes interactions between the company and the Carlson School. Stoering succeeds Brent Blackney.
Web Evolution Update
The web evolution is a multi-phased project, culminating in an externally focused website and an internally focused intranet/portal for students, faculty, and staff. The web evolution will have a soft (internal) launch in mid-September, with a hard (external) launch planned for the end of September.
During the transition, content groups should continue to maintain their site content. Over the next several months, Marketing Services will be working with content groups to migrate content into the updated external site or portal/intranet.
A link on the updated website will route current students to student-specific content and to an explanation of the web evolution.
