ProfessionalPortfolios

The Carlson School developed Professional Portfolios to help students choose courses and professional activities -- to help them design a total MBA experience -- that aligns with their individual career path. It's a new way of thinking about business education.

Every Full-Time MBA student starts by taking integrated core courses that introduce the functional and foundational areas of business. Portfolios build upon the core courses by helping students choose from a wide selection of electives and activities that build expertise in a particular area.

To help students develop a portfolio, we ask them to think about their long-term goals and consider how their experiences have prepared them for the future. Portfolios are advising tools that help students decide what they will need to complete their education.

We've organized classes and experiences into 5 key portfolios, but these tools are flexible and can also guide students with interests outside the traditional fields. Students don't have to select from a single portfolio and are always free to take any MBA elective that will best suit their plans for the future.

Another document you may want to consider looking at is "Giving Your Portfolio a Medical Industry Orientation." This document gives students a look at how they can add a medical industry orientation to any of the above mentioned portfolios.
