Fellowships and Scholarships

The Carlson School and the University of Minnesota award a number of academic merit-based fellowships and scholarships. The Full-Time MBA program automatically considers applicants for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Unless noted in the descriptions below, no special application is required for these scholarships; however, we urge candidates to submit their applications for admission by the December 1 deadline for full consideration.

The following scholarships are awarded by organizations external to the Carlson School and the University of Minnesota.

The Carlson School Dean's Fellow Scholarship
These awards are offered to the top candidates from the Full-Time MBA applicant pool. The program is made possible by the Carlson School Dean's office to encourage attendance from students who will add to the high-caliber and diversity of the student body. The Dean's Fellow Scholarship Program provides a full tuition waiver as well as a stipend for living expenses.

The Carlson School Associate's Fellow Scholarship

The recipients of these scholarships are high ability students seeking admission to the Full-Time MBA program. The program is made possible by the Carlson School's leading corporate donors to encourage outstanding students to attend the school. A number of these awards are designated to high ability minority/disadvantaged candidates. The Associates program provides awards in varying amounts up to a full tuition waiver.

3M Business Development Fellowship

These awards are offered to domestic candidates with science, technology, and/or engineering backgrounds who wish to participate in the Carlson Ventures Enterprise. Fellowship recipients will receive a $15,000 tuition waiver. The award is renewable for the second year as long as the recipient is enrolled in the Carlson Ventures Enterprise.

Victor and Fern Bates Fellowship
Sponsored by the Victor and Fern Bates Foundation, this scholarship provides $15,000 per year toward tuition for domestic candidates who have served in the US military.

Donaldson Company Scholarship
Donaldson Company, the global leader in filtration solutions, offers this scholarship in the amount $16,000 per year for domestic students interested in some aspect of the global manufacturing environment, including finance, marketing, human resources, operations, or engineering.

Forté Foundation Fellowship

These fellowships are awarded to two outstanding women who show potential for business leadership or ownership. Applicants should also demonstrate a commitment to women and girls through personal mentorship or community outreach. Forté Fellows will receive a full tuition waiver as well as a variety of leadership and career development opportunities.

Harrison Fellowship
This scholarship provides a partial tuition waiver to international applicants who plan to pursue a career in finance.

The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) UPP Scholarship
NSHMBA is the "Premier Hispanic Organization." NSHMBA exists to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development in order to improve society. The NSHMBA UPP Scholarship was established to provide monetary support for outstanding students admitted to MBA programs who show potential for business leadership or ownership. Preference may be given but is not limited to students of Hispanic heritage or students with a demonstrated commitment to the Hispanic community. Roberta Petrick Fellowship
This scholarship provides $15,000 per year toward tuition and is awarded to a woman who has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability.

The Carlson Companies Employee Scholarship Program
Carlson Companies' employees, or the children or grandchildren of employees, seeking admission to the MBA program are eligible. A special application is required and can be obtained by contacting the human resources department at the Carlson Companies. The application deadline is April 1.

Second-Year Fellowships
A number of second-year fellowships are currently available to Carlson MBA students with awards that range from $1,000 to $7,000. Information and applications are provided to first year students each spring, and awards are made for the second year. Recipients are selected based on the specific criteria for each award.

The following scholarships are awarded by organizations external to the Carlson School and the University of Minnesota.

Military MBA Scholarships
Military students can apply for four $5,000 merit awards and use the Military MBA Scholarship Hub to access another $500,000 in funding for their MBA degree. For more information, visit the Military MBA website.
