GraduateAssistantships

Due to the heavy academic load of the first semester, we strongly discourage students from holding assistantships until at least the spring semester of their first year. Most Full-Time MBA students wait until the second year of the program to apply for assistantships.

Although the Carlson School does not award assistantships as part of the admissions and financial aid process, MBA students can contact academic and program departments about the availability of assistantships once they are enrolled in the program. Departments select qualified students based on their needs and make the majority of hiring decisions in late summer and early fall.

For information about assistantships in other University of Minnesota departments, contact the Graduate Assistant Office at 612-624-7070.

In addition to earning an hourly wage, students who hold 25% graduate assistantship appointments (195 hours of assistantship work per semester) are eligible to pay in-state tuition rates and receive a reduction in the remaining tuition. They are also eligible for health care benefits at a reduced cost.
