Faculty - Daniel Forbes - Entrepreneurial Studies

Assistant Professor Daniel Forbes

Daniel Forbes, assistant professor of strategic management and organization at the Carlson School, studies how managers make strategic decisions and tries to find ways in which they can do so more effectively. He is especially interested in decision making in the context of small, new ventures.

"In new ventures, managers have fewer routines and precedents to rely on," Forbes explains, "so they have to rely on their own sense-making abilities to a greater extent than do managers in large organizations."

In one of his current research projects, Forbes is working with two Carlson School colleagues, Harry Sapienza and Mary Zellmer-Bruhn, on a study of how individuals come together to form the entrepreneurial teams that launch new technology ventures. Their research on this topic is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. In other projects, Forbes has studied corporate governance, executive turnover, and various aspects of how entrepreneurs think about their goals, strategies, and behavior.

As a teacher, Forbes helps lead an annual strategic management and organization workshop at the Carlson School and teaches courses in strategic management.
