Degree Requirements


Students who entered the program prior to Fall 2007 will continue to follow the old degree requirements.

We encourage students to complete 30 credits each year in order to earn the 120 credits required for the bachelor of science in business (BSB) degree in 4 years. At least 30 credits must be completed from the University of Minnesota, including at least 24 credits in upper division (3000 - 5000) business courses. Students must earn a C- or better in all required coursework in the major and a minimum grade point average of C in all work taken at the University of Minnesota.


Freshman Year


Students must complete all designated courses (*) with a C- or better.

ECON 1101 Principles of Microeconomics* (4 credits)

MATH 1142 Short Calculus* or MATH 1271, Calculus I* (4 credits)
WRIT 1301 or 1401 Freshman Writing, or equivalent (4 credits)

Sophomore Year

Students must complete all designated courses (*) with a C- or better.

Declaring your major

Students should declare their major when they have earned 50 credits and have completed or are completing their final tool course (Economics, Calculus, Accounting, and Statistics). All students should have a declared major by the time they have earned 60 credits. Students may declare their major by filling out the major declaration form in the Undergraduate Program office or by submitting the request on-line. Major/Minor Declaration Form prior 2007



Declaring additional majors outside of Carlson

Carlson School students may choose to declare an additional major or minor from another college on the Twin Cities campus and should contact the specific department as early as possible to inquire about the admission or declaration requirements for their program.

Writing Intensive
