Registration & Payment

How do I register for a program?
There are three methods to register:

  • Register online using the electronic forms on this site
  • Call 612-624-2545 (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday)
  • Return a postage-free registration form (found in program brochure) by mail or fax to 612-626-9264. You can request a brochure on any programs that are of interest to you.

When is payment due?
Payment is due upon receipt of an invoice and prior to attending the program. Space in the program isn't guaranteed until payment is received.

What is included in my registration fee?
The registration fee for programs held at Executive Education includes tuition, advance reading materials, assessment tools, refreshment/snack breaks, and lunch or dinner when a meal is served. The Minnesota Management Institute (MMI) and Minnesota Executive Program (MEP) are held at area conference centers in which a discounted lodging and meal group rate has been negotiated. MMI and MEP participants are responsible for payment of their own lodging and meal expenses.

Which payment methods are accepted?
Credit cards accepted include: American Express, Discover, VISA and MasterCard. Checks and wire or electronic funds transfers are also accepted.

When do you apply the charge to my credit card: when I register, or later in the process?
The charge is applied to your credit card at the time of registration.

How do I know that my credit card information will be kept secure if I give it to you online?
We use secure socket technology to protect your information in transit to our servers, and we do not store credit card information.

Will you sell my name to other organizations?
Executive Education will never sell your name or personal information to any other organization.

Do you offer group discounts?
Three or more people from the same company may submit their registrations together for a specific program and receive a 15% discount off the registration price.

We have several people wanting to take a course. Is it possible to have a program held at our company?
Yes, if you would like to schedule an onsite program please contact our Assistant Director of Custom Programs, Amy Frasier at 612-624-2545 or email, execed@umn.edu.

Hotels/Accommodations and the Twin Cities Area

Do you have any recommended hotels for out-of-town attendees?
Yes. Click here for a list of nearby hotels that offer a discounted rate for Executive Education program attendees.

What is there to do in the Mpls./St. Paul area in the evenings after programs have ended?
Click on this visitor's guide for information on dining, shopping, entertainment, golfing, movies, theater/dance/arts, etc.

If I live in the immediate Twin Cities area, am I required to stay overnight at area hotel/conference centers used for both the Minnesota Executive Program (MEP) and Minnesota Management Institute (MMI)?
It is not a requirement. However, it is highly recommended that participants take advantage of the situation to fully benefit from the networking, relationship development, and sharing of intellectual capital that is gained from residency with classmates. Residency at each of the venues also eases the pressure of trying to work into the evening with colleagues on team projects and saves daily commute time to and from home.

Program Materials

Is there advance material to read or to prepare prior to attending a program?
Yes, all of the General Management programs (MEP and MMI) and the majority of the topic specific and custom programs have advance materials emailed or mailed to participants about two weeks prior to the program start date. Advance materials may include cases or articles to be read and assessments or questionnaires to be completed. It is important to include a street address, rather than just a box number, on your registration form because overnight mail may be used in special situations.

What kinds of program materials will I receive?
In addition to any advance reading materials you receive two weeks prior to the start of a program, you can also expect to receive materials during the program. These materials might include books, articles, handouts, or notebooks. If flying in from another city, remember to allow extra luggage space so you can transport program materials back with you.

Program Information

May I obtain references from past participants of a program?
Each program web page includes testimonials from past participants (found in the right side blue menu bar). Contact our office at 612-624-2545 if you would like to obtain names of past participants that you can speak with directly.

Will I be able to send and receive e-mail at Executive Education during program breaks?
High speed internet access is available in most meeting rooms. There is limited access to computers so it is recommended that you bring your own laptop. Wireless service is available with a 20-minute advance notice to set up. There are also two computers and printers available for participant use in the Executive Education public area, which are password protected. The password can be obtained from our on-site manager. A full-day program typically provides two 15-minute breaks and an hour lunch to allow participants time to check e-mail and voice mail.

How can people contact me while I am attending a program at the center?
Messages can be left with the main Executive Education office.

  • Phone: 612-624-2545
  • Fax: 612-626-9264
What is the dress code?
Business casual. Since individual comfort levels vary, it's a good idea to bring a jacket or sweater.

What are the Executive Education dining arrangements?
Full-day programs held at Executive Education include the following dining arrangements:

  • Self-service continental breakfast
  • Refreshment and snack break in the morning and afternoon
  • Buffet lunch in a private dining room or box lunches.
Please inform the program on-site manager of any special dietary requirements.

What is the smoking policy?

The Carlson School of Management is a non-smoking environment. However, smoking is permitted outdoors on the balcony/patio located off the Executive Education lobby area (weather permitting).

Program Credit

Will I receive college credits toward either an undergraduate, MBA degree, or other degree granting program?
No. Executive Education programs are recognized for their quality and content, but they do not earn degree program credits. Program participants are provided with a certificate of completion.

Will I receive continuing education credits for participating in an Executive Education program?
Many national, state, and local licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education (CEU) credit for attendance at our seminars when you submit the course outline and proof of attendance (your certificate of completion). Contact your own board or organization to find out what is required. We'll be glad to provide you with the documentation on the content and length of the program.

International Students

I am not a U.S. citizen. Do I need a student visa to enter the U.S. for an executive program?
Executive Education programs are non-degree, short programs. They are not considered to be full-time courses and do not lead to a degree. Therefore, participants are ineligible to enter the U.S. on a non-immigrant student visa category (F or J). Program participants who need a visa should apply for a B category visa and should state the intent of their visit to the consular official at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate, and to the immigration officer at the port of entry.

Are English classes available before the programs begin?
No. To get the most from your Carlson Executive Education experience, you need to be proficient enough in the English language to comprehend reading materials and contribute to the classroom and small group sessions.
