University of Minnesota Police Department »
It is absolutely critical for our students, staff, faculty, and visitors to feel safe when they are on campus. The University Police ensures the security of our campus grounds and facilities, through regular patrols and through its partnerships with other University departments and programs. The University of Minnesota is committed to providing a safe environment for everyone who lives, works, and studies on our campus.
For ambulance, fire, or police services, the number to call is 911. You do not need an outside line, nor do you need change for pay phones. Dialing 911, on campus, will directly contact you with the University of Minnesota Police Department. Dial 4-COPS or 612-624-2677 using campus phones to contact the U of M Police for non-emergency assistance. Free Security Escort Service: Dial 4-WALK or 612-624-9255.
Emergency Alert Radios
Emergency alert radios have been placed in selected offices within the Carlson School and other buildings across campus. This alert radio will sound an alarm tone in the event of a county/city wide alert. The radio tone is activated by the University of Minnesota Police Department in the event of a weather or other civil emergency. The tone will be followed by a voice message explaining the nature of the emergency (i.e. tornado warning, required evacuation). At the sound of the tone, please LISTEN to the message and pass the warning on to others in nearby areas. Take any necessary actions you feel appropriate to protect yourself.
Automated External Defibrillator »
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is provided in an enclosed case on the wall near the west stairwell on the first floor near the kiosk desk. The device talks and will verbally give you instructions on how to use the device. AED's are the ONLY effective treatment for the most lethal type of sudden cardiac arrest.
University of Minnesota Police Security Monitor
Security Monitor is provided to help keep our facility safe and secure. The security monitor is available for assistance Monday though Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and is on duty 24 hours Saturday and Sunday. The security monitor is stationed at the first floor kiosk desk or can be dispatched by calling 612-624-WALK or dial 911 in an emergency situation.
Carlson School Emergency Plan »
As an employee or student in this building, it is your responsibility to read safety and emergency information provided in this manual. The procedures outlined, together with common sense, are intended to prevent injury to building occupants and to minimize property damage. The information contains procedures on how to report an emergency, recommended actions to take, and which emergency personnel will respond. Please take the time to read this document and become familiar with where the emergency stairwells, fire doors, fire lanes, fire pull stations, and fire extinguishers are located on your floor. (The fire lanes shown in Appendix 13 must remain clear at all times.)
