MISCELLANEOUS
Q) Where can I get Microsoft software like Office or Windows?
A) Microsoft software can be purchased for a low student price at http://www.umn.edu/ms4students Other software can be obtained from ADCS. If you are part of the Carlson Laptop Program, you can check the Laptop Program Updates Page for software specific to your laptop.
Q) Where can I get training for Microsoft Office?
A) Visit the IT Department Computer Training web page for Microsoft Office training information. For notes on Office 2007, please visit the Office 2007 Implementation web page.
CLASSROOMS
Q) I reserved a break-out, but the door is locked.
A) Visit your respective Program Office for access. (e.g. Undergrad; MBA; etc)
Q) I am teaching a class in Carlson, but the door is locked. Who do I contact to open it?
A) For most classrooms you can visit the Carlson Help Desk in room 1-148. If they are unable to help you, please contact Deb Savage at 612-624-3842.
WIRELESS
Q) How do I get on the wireless network in the Carlson building?
A) First make sure you are connected to the UofM Wireless network. Then you need to open a web browser. When you try to access any webpage, you will be prompted for your x500 user name and password. Once you have successfully logged in, you will be able to access the internet.
Q) How do I get on the wireless network in the Hanson building?
A) In the Hanson building you have two options for wireless networks. The first, UofM, functions like the wireless network in the Carlson building (see above information). The second, UofM Secure, requires special wireless connection configuration settings. For the UofM Secure network, please visit the U of M's Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) page for configuration instructions.
Q) How do I set up Carlson wireless printing on my laptop?

***Please note, wireless network printing is currently only supported for Windows XP Pro.***
EQUIPMENT CHECKOUTS
Q) How can I check out equipment from the Carlson Help Desk?
A) To check out equipment from the Carlson Help Desk, there are a few things that you need to do.
- You need to be a current student, staff, or faculty member at th Carlson School.
- You will need to go to the Carlson Help Desk (room 1-148) with a valid ID (UCard or state issued ID). There you will be asked to fill out the Customer Equipment Agreement Form or the Faculty/Staff Equipment User Agreement Form. Depending on the type of equipment you are checking out, there may be addition forms needed. You will need to fill these forms out at least once a year, or if they change.
- Once you have the proper forms filled out, you can check out your equipment. The Carlson Help Desk has the following equipment available for checkout:
- Student Laptops (4 hour checkouts, with Deep Freeze)
- Faculty/Staff Laptops (please consult your area techs to check out this equipment)
- Projectors
- Speaker Phone
- Computer Accessories
Please note, equipment rentals are on a first come, first serve basis, and IT Student Services makes no availability guarantees.

Q) What do I do if I forget my internet ID or password?
A) You will need to call the Central Help Desk. Their phone number is 612-301-HELP (612-301-4357).
CARLSON LAB INFORMATION
Q) Where are the Carlson School Computer Labs?
A) There are two computer labs located on the lower level of the Carlson building, and one computer lab located on the lower level of the Hanson building.
- L-113 is the Graduate Computer Lab.
- L-112 is the Graduate & Undergraduate Computer Lab.
- The Hanson Learning Lab (Hanson building, room L-102) is the Undergraduate Computer Lab.
