Executive Education was originally established through a partnership with local Twin Cities business people who wanted to have excellent executive programs available locally. In 1961, four major corporations came together to offer education programs for their executives using faculty from the University of Minnesota Business School. Over time, the University of Minnesota Business School took over more of the executive program responsibility and expanded its reach to a large number of companies. In 1970, Executive Education was founded through a Bush Foundation grant and the Minnesota Executive Program began.

The tradition of partnership between the business community and Executive Education continues to this day.  Executive Education considers itself an extension of companies’ talent development efforts. The result has been the creation of a strong portfolio of Open Enrollment Programs covering key business functions, as well as more general development topics such as leadership and strategy.
