The Carlson School’s exchange to Norway allows students to immerse themselves in a country characterized by good health and a high standard of living. Norway holds the top international ranking in the human development index. It enjoys an abundance of key natural resources and shares borders with Sweden, Finland and Russia. Traditionally focused on sea transport and shipping, industries have expanded to include petroleum, hydropower and advanced information technology innovations. The capital of Oslo is devoutly international with more than 20% of the population foreign born. Much of the wide reaching city is covered in protected forest and as one strolls down the pedestrian shopping streets they are only moments away from isolated wilderness. Situated at the very tip of Oslofjord, the city is surrounded by more than 1,000 kilometers of downhill and cross-country ski trails in every direction.

Students will receive 15 Carlson School S/N International Business (IBUS 5100) credits for their semester at BI. Students will need to complete a total of 30 ECTS credits (5 classes) at BI in order to confer 15 credits. Contact your adviser or International Programs for a list of BI courses that have already been evaluated to meet Carlson School requirements.

BI will assist you in finding housing while in Oslo and all students are offered accommodation close to campus. Though specific information is provided toward the beginning of the semester, there are two primary housing options available to exchange students. Kringsja is located 20 minutes from campus by train (30 minutes by bike) and is adjacent to a large park offering jogging and ski trails. Students live in private rooms that share a kitchen and common area with several other units. Participants have routinely commented on how much they enjoyed the sense of community they developed and the friends they met from all over the world. Close to campus and somewhat more expensive is BN. A newer building with modern amenities, BN is similar to on-campus apartments at the University of Minnesota.

Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad. In addition, University of Minnesota students are eligible for education abroad scholarships. Visit the

Application materials include the
online application form, a resume, and essay. Submit a completed application by the February 28th Priority Deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling-admissions basis.
Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee. Applications will be reviewed following the deadline and you will be notified of your status by official letter in April. Once selected, you will be asked to pay a $500 deposit in order to confirm your place in the program.
