The University of Cologne is among the Top 10 European MBA programs and has long enjoyed a reputation for academic excellence in Germany’s fourth largest city. A variety of business topics, taught in English, await ambitious students looking to leverage their Carlson School degree with a semester at one of the world’s premier business institutions. Considering that Germany accounts for nearly 5% of all US foreign trade, the importance of first-hand knowledge, exposure, and expertise has never been more important.

The University of Cologne, in addition to being ranked among top European business educators, is rooted in a wide and rewarding international network. Along with institutional membership in globally renowned networks and contributing to many innovative models of inter-university cooperation, the university has developed close ties to the international corporate community. Many of the faculty are leaders of industry in their fields of expertise. The International Relations Centre has become a body for both creation and development.

Cologne
is located on the ancient trade route along the river Rhine and has thus been an international city for centuries. Indeed, 20% of the city’s current populace is non-German born. Cologne is the European headquarters of Ford Motor Company and the German headquarters for numerous international firms like Sony and Sara Lee. Located in the heart of the European Union, Cologne is also a massive transport hub serving major airlines and students have ready access to all of Europe.

Courses at Cologne

Students enroll in the International Business & Politics Program for a semester and choose from a diverse set of course topics. The broad areas of Management and Economics drill down to interesting courses such as:
  • Designing Virtual Corporations
  • Strategic Human Resource Management
  • State Collapse & International Business in War Economies,
  • Global Business Strategy

Housing

Housing is arranged for students in private apartments or rooms in residence halls and the International Relations Centre will assist students in finding appropriate accomodations. Housing will be announced prior to your arrival in Cologne for the semester.

Academic Credit

Students will receive 14 S/N Carlson School International Business (IBUS 5300) credits for their semester at Cologne. These International Business credits will automatically count towards the total number of credits required for the Carlson degree. Students enroll in a total of 28-30 ECTS credits to earn 14 Carlson School credits.

Program Eligibility

• Current students enrolled in a Carlson School MBA or HRIR program
• Good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Additional criteria may apply

Application & Admission Process

Submit a completed application with a $50 application fee, transcript, resume, and essay by the February 28th Priority Deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling-admissions basis.

Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee. Applications will be reviewed following the deadline and you will be notified of your status by official letter in April. Once selected, you will be asked to pay a $500 deposit in order to confirm your place in the program.
