Description »

A close ally of the United States since the end of the Second World War, Japan has raced to economic prominence in the region of East Asia and the world. Despite significantly slower growth rates in the 1990s following the “bubble burst” from an inflated real estate market and over-investment in stocks and technology, the country has remained a powerhouse on a global scale and is fourth among US trade partners, trailing only China and our North American partners Mexico and Canada. With the second largest economy in the world and purchasing power unrivaled by most nations, graduate studies in Japan provide Carlson School students with an academic and cultural immersion opportunity crucial for future success.

Keio has a long history dating back to the mid-1800s when it was founded as the first private institution of higher learning in Japan. Since the school’s inception, Keio students have risen to the forefront of innovation and emerged as social and economic leaders. As the globalization of national economies accelerates, management skills in multinational settings are increasingly important and Carlson School students at Keio benefit from their unique academic and social experiences in Japan.

The major cities of Tokyo and Yokohama greet students studying at Keio’s Graduate School of Business. With a combined population of more than 12 million people, plus those who commute into the cities daily, there is no shortage of excitement. From modern conveyor belt sushi restaurants and massive, multi-leveled entertainment plazas to traditional kabuki plays and ikebana flower arranging, Japan opens views of its past and future to visitors. Seeing a sumo tournament, having a hanami party under the cherry blossoms, or hiking overnight to see sunrise at the summit of Mt. Fuji are just a handful of adventures available in spring.
