MGMT 1350. Introduction to Business and Business Careers (3 cr)
Career exploration and self-development for students. Participants examine the functional areas of business and issues related to the purpose of business. Topics include basic business processes, organizations as systems, profit centers and political communities, current business issues, and trends for the future.
MGMT 3001. Fundamentals of Management (3 cr)
General aspects and characteristics of organizations and their members. This course focuses on organizational analysis and behavior, the structure/function of complex organizations, and on leadership for establishing goals, policies, procedures, and plans. Also includes an examination of why people/groups in organizations feel and behave as they do, and methods that improve behavior, attitudes, and the effectiveness of organizational members.
MGMT 3010. Introduction to Entrepreneurship (4 cr)
The fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Investigate career paths, including new business start-ups, franchising, acquisitions (including family business succession), corporate venturing, and entrepreneurial services. Study legal structures for new business formation, as well as aspects of business law/ethics.
BA 3033W and BA 3033V (Honors). Business Communication (3 cr).
BA 3033W combines writing and speaking instruction into a single, semester-long course required of all Carlson School undergraduates. This course offers students opportunities to develop their critical thinking and communication skills through discussing, speaking, and writing assignments that simulate real business communication. BA 3033V requires a real-world experiential service project.
MGMT 3040 & MGMT 3040H (Honors). Understanding the International Environment of Firms, International Business (3 cr)
Theories, frameworks, tools, and facts for understanding the environment of firms in international competition. Participants explore the main world-level economic flows (trade, investment, finance). Subject matter also includes how country/industry-level economic, political, and socio-cultural factors influence the behavior and functions of firms in international competition.

MGMT 3602. Topics: Environmental Regulations (3 cr)
Concepts/issues relating to industrial ecology and industry as they are influenced by current standards/regulations at local, state, and national levels.
MGMT 3603. Topics: Environmental Issues (3 cr)
Concepts/issues relating to inventory, subsequent analysis of production systems. Production system from holistic point of view, using term commonly used in industrial ecology: "metabolic system."
MGMT 3604. Topics: Environmental Issues (3 cr)
Environmental problems such as climate change, ozone depletion, and loss of biodiversity.
MGMT 4002. Managerial Psychology (4 cr)
A study of the behavioral principles, methods, and skills that underlie and compose dimensions of managerial competence and contribute to managers' effectiveness in preventing and solving problems within and between individuals and groups. Also includes the development of human resource skills that management needs based partially on experiential exercises.
MGMT 4004W & MGMT 4004V (Honors). Business Policy: Strategy Formulation and Implementation (3 cr)
An integrative perspective on the overall direction of enterprise. This course examines both the choice of products and markets and the selection of organization structures and management styles. Case analyses involve identifying key issues, evaluating options, and making recommendations under conditions of uncertainty and incomplete information.
MGMT 4005. Managing the Multinational Business (4 cr)
Examining the structures and strategies of global business. Compare the personnel, technology, and operations in host nations. Investigate the challenges unique to the management of the multinational firm. Includes topics such as comparative culture, trade, and ethics.
MGMT 4008. Entrepreneurial Management. (4 cr)
Management, operations, marketing, financial, legal, and competitive issues in the entrepreneurial setting. In this course, students assess the opportunities and constraints in developing a new business, structuring ventures, perceiving the critical issues, and obtaining the skills needed to succeed.. Students will also explore the business plan for start-ups, buyouts, franchises, and the family firm.
MGMT 4050. Management of Innovation and Change (2 cr)
Applying theories and research to how new organizational programs, products, and technologies are developed and implemented. Students gain diagnostic skills and insight into how innovation unfolds.
MGMT 4177. The Business Plan (2 cr)
Understanding the structure of business plans. Students will critically analyze business plans, and formulate an original business plan of their own.
MGMT 5019. Business, Natural Environment, and Global Economy (2 cr)
This class delves into problems of sustainability, local and global environmental threats, and how government policies address these issues. Studetns formulate business strategies and practices that are meant to produce "win-win" outcomes, that is "wins" for the natural environment and "wins" for the business enterprise.
