Can you waive theapplication fee?

The application fee is set by the Graduate School and cannot be waived. If you do not pay the fee at the time that you apply, your file will be held inactive.

Do you have a part-time ordistance learning PhD option?

Our program is full-time only. The nature of a doctoral program, with its focus on research and academic placement, requires the student to work closely with faculty. Part-time or distance learning programs do not provide these close connections.

Do you require GMAT or GRE scoresfor all applicants?

Yes, we require either GMAT or GRE scores for all applicants. Scores must be less than five years old.

How can I checkthe status of my application?

You may check on the status of your application at the Graduate School through the online ApplyYourself system. The PhD office will notify you by email regarding your application status soon after we receive and process your application. If you have not heard from us within one month after submitting your application, please contact us.

How do I apply forfinancial aid?

There is no separate application form for financial aid. Each student admitted to our program typically receives full funding. This consists of a minimum $25,000 per year stipend (combination of fellowship, research assistantship, and teaching assistantship), full tuition waiver, low-cost student health insurance, and a $1,200 - 1,500 research and teaching supplement. Students making good progress may also receive an additional $5,000 summer research fellowship.

How long does it take to completethe PhD program in business?

As a full-time program, it typically requires 5 years to complete, though occasionally a student may complete it in 4 years.

When will you make anadmission decision on my application?

We make admission decisions on a rolling basis starting in late January. We make the majority of admission decisions in February and March. Admissions should be finished by the April 15 national deadline.

Where can I find the formfor letters of recommendation?

Recommenders may submit paper letters or use the online recommendation system. If submitting paper letters, no form is needed. Your recommenders may use their preferred letter format on their institution's official letterhead. If you choose to use the online recommendation system, please enter your recommenders' names when you complete the application, and we will contact them with instructions. If you need to change your online recommendation list, contact the Graduate School admissions office at 612-625-3014 or gsquest@umn.edu.

Who will notify me ofthe admission decision?

The Graduate School issues official written notification of all admission or rejection decisions. Please do not call the Graduate School or the PhD office, as no decisions will be given out over the phone.
