Computer LabPolicies
  • No food or drink allowed in the computer labs.
  • Be sure to log off when you finish using the lab computers. (Click Start, Shut Down, Log Off.) If the computer was not logged off by a previous user, log them off and then login.
  • Lab usage is for current Carlson School students only.
  • No Undergraduate students allowed in L-113.
  • The phone is for lab consultant use only; however, the lab consultant will be happy to call U of M escort services for you.

Lab Consultant

Lab consultants will be present in the lab. They will assist with specific problems you have and offer software support as time and the needs of other students allow.

Printing

  • Printing is included in student technology fees. If you abuse this privilege, you will lose it.
  • Limit your printing to 20 pages at a time.
  • To save paper and toner when printing PowerPoint slides, DO NOT CLICK THE PRINT BUTTON. Click File, Print, select Handouts and print 6 per page. Use the Black and White or Grayscale option. Use Print Preview to assist you in determining the best option.
  • If the printer runs out of paper, please ask the lab attendant to load the paper tray for you.
  • Transparency printing and color printing are available at Printing Services in L-129.
  • Do not leave a print job unattended. If you are printing something you do not want, ask the consultant to cancel the job rather than waste the paper.

Labs Only for Carlson Students

The Carlson School computer labs (L-112, L-113 and the Hanson Learning Lab) are operated through technology fees paid by Carlson students and therefore can only be used by students enrolled in and obtaining a degree major through the Carlson School of Management.

If you are NOT a Carlson student but still need access to a computer:

All students enrolled at the University of Minnesota have access to several labs on campus. The closest to the Carlson school is HHH 50 in the Humphrey building across the courtyard. A map is provided from the link below. HHH 50 is open to all students and carries both Mac and PCs, as well as the complete MS OFFICE package (Word, Excel, Access, etc). Students need to sign into a computer using their Student ID card. The labs charge a fee for each print job.

If you are NOT a Carlson Major, but are enrolled in courses offered by the Carlson School:

  1. If you are required to do a group project in a Carlson class, you may be logged into a computer by a lab consultant as long as you are working with your group at the time.
  2. Your coursework may occasionally require you to use the software available in the Carlson computer labs. Your Professor will inform you if software required for the class is available in the labs. If this is the case, you must request your Professor to submit a class list to the Lab Supervisor. When you need to use the labs, a Lab Consultant will verify your name on the list and log you into a computer. Your Professor should submit a class list to Carlson IT Student Services (ITSS) by emailing csomhelp@umn.edu. Until a class list has been submitted, you may NOT be logged into the computer labs.
  3. If you feel that your situation entitles you to special consideration, you can submit an email to IT Student Services (csomhelp@umn.edu) and request a temporary semester login account. Until your request has been reviewed and approved, you may not be logged into the computer labs.

Public computers are available in the Humphrey building. Carlson-to-Humphrey Map
