Research Computing


The Carlson School research office, offers dataset access, access to research servers and statistical software, and other research support.  The research office is working in conjunction with CLA (College of Liberal Arts) to provide additional research tools and software, see below for details.

Get Access to Available Datasets

Carlson School of Management offers a wide variety of business databases including WRDS, SDC Platinum and many other proprietary databases.

Get Access to Research Software and Tools

You Must Request an Account to use the Research Tools and Commercial Statistical Software, click here for the CLA Form!!

You must print and submit the CLA form to the Office of Research Support in CSOM 3-352 or the IT Service Center  in CSOM 3-351.  For questions contact the IT Service Center in CSOM 3-351 or by email: csareait@umn.edu or phone: 612-624-1154; or contact CLA at  help@cla.umn.edu.

  • Software and tools running on Unix*:
    • Commercial software:  Matlab ,SAS, Mathematica , GaussX , Stat Transfer, and Stata 
    • Open source:  Perl, Apache, Mysql, PHP, C/C++ and Fortran compilers, R, S-Plus stat software, and Latex .  
  • Software and tools running on Windows*:
    • Commercial software:  AMOS and SPSS, which can be installed locally on your workstation (although the server option is recommended) and other comercial apps , such as Mathematica 6 , Matlab R2008a , SPSS 16.0 , Stata SE 10 , installed on a remotely accessible server 
    • Open source:  R 2.9.0, PUTTY , WINSCP , and NXClient for moving data and accessing the CLA servers.
