Unix Tools for Research

You can query for data through Unix. This may be desirable for large queries or when you wish to export the results directly into another program such as SAS or Mathematica. This requires a mix of skills including familiarity with Unix commands as well as some programming ability.

C/C++ Compilers : GNU Compilers are available for Linux/ Solaris. Full math libraries and unix scripting tools included.
Fortran Compiler : GNU Compilers are available for Linux/ Solaris.

Matlab: Matlab is a technical computing language and an environment for developing algorithms, data visualization, data analysis, and numerical computation. SAS: SAS allows you to access data from a variety of sources, perform data management, and carry out statistical analysis. For more information on SAS, you can visit their website at: http://www.sas.com/ Software and manuals are available through the PhD office.
