INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDY ABROAD IN 2010-2011: Read instructions on how to apply online here (link coming soon!).
For students studying abroad in 2009-2010:
1. Choose your program (Global Enrichment and/or Global Immersion)
- Global Enrichment short-term programs
- You can apply to no more than two short-term programs at a time, and you must rank your choices (1, 2). Applying to multiple programs does not affect your chances of success.
- Global Immersion semester exchange programs
- You can select up to five partner institutions for consideration. Please rank your selections (1, 2, 3, etc.). We encourage you to select multiple locations, as space at some partner institutions is more limited than at others.
2. Complete the confidential and additional information, including passport information, prior international travel, and foreign languages spoken.
3. Upload an updated resume for each program you are applying for.
4. Upload a completed essay for each program you are applying for.

- Write an essay of no more than two pages that answers the three essay questions below.
- If you apply for two programs within the same application cycle, you must write separate essays for each program.
- You must save each essay as an individual document.
- Questions
- What are your academic, professional, and cultural goals for studying abroad and how does this program fulfill them?
- What research have you done on this program and location? What were your key findings?
- What skills and experiences can you contribute to make this program meaningful for the entire group?
- Global Immersion semester exchange essay instructions:
- Write an 2 page essay that answers the 2 questions below.
- If you apply to more than one partner institution, we encourage you to write separate essays for each location.
- Question:
- Describe the research you conducted when selecting this program. How will it advance your academic, professional and personal goals? (If you applied to more than one exchange program, be sure to specifically address each of them).
- Participation in a semester exchange program will require a great degree of flexibility, independence and planning on your part. Describe a time when you demonstrated these qualities to reach a goal.
- Notification
- Global Enrichment short-term programs: You will receive notification within four weeks of the application deadline. Notification is sent to your University of Minnesota email account.
- Global Immersion semester programs: For the February 28 priority deadline, you can expect to receive notification by March 31. Notification is sent to your University of Minnesota email account.
5. Start your application now by logging into the online application using your X.500 and password.
