Located in a natural harbor on the southeastern coast of New Zealand, the city of Dunedin is a university town. Dunedin is the main city in the province of Otago and has a total population of 120,000 people. Otago peninsula is a visual treat, indented on the ocean side by high, surf-beaten bluffs and beaches with seals and sea birds. Inland, the city rises up to volcanic hills that stretch to one of New Zealand's mountain ranges.

The University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest university. Its business program has an international focus and offers a wide range of courses in accounting, business law, finance, economics, information science, and marketing, as well as a special tourism program. A great deal of emphasis is placed on the collaboration, communication and peer management processes of business management. Exchange students are able to select from a variety of courses in the graduate and MBA programs.

To be eligible for this education abroad program, you must be:

• A current student enrolled in a Carlson School Part-Time MBA or MA-HRIR program
• In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Additional criteria may apply

Accommodation is guaranteed to exchange students who apply by the deadline for their term of study. Students also have the option of either finding their own accommodation. The most common style of living is student flats with four or five students, where each student has a private bedroom and all students share kitchen, living and bathroom areas. Where possible, study abroad students are placed in flats with a mix of New Zealand students and overseas students.

Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad. In addition, University of Minnesota students are eligible for education abroad scholarships. See Scholarships and Finances for additional information.

Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Submit a completed application by the February 28th priority deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling-admissions basis.

Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee. Applications will be reviewed following the deadline, and you will be notified of your status by official letter in April. Once selected, you will be asked to pay a $500 deposit in order to confirm your place in the program.
