OneStop myU

This is a semester exchange program, where students take classes (in English or German) directly at a partner university and substitute that semester for a semester at the University of Minnesota. The partner university will send one of their students to the Carlson School of Management to take classes in their place.

Exchanges often require students to demonstrate a high degree of independence, adaptability, and flexibility because support and service may be different from a US university. Examples of differences that exchange students should be prepared to encounter include varying housing options, the amount and timing of program details, grading based less on assignments and more on final exams, and an academic calendar that may differ significantly from the University of Minnesota.

Vienna is the cultural and economic center of Austria and famous the world over for its music, art, and culture. Austrians enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world. Since joining the European Union and lessening dependence upon the German market, Austria has seen a massive upswing in foreign investment, and economic growth rates mirror this success. Vienna has long provided an ideal environment for students interested in learning what it means to do business internationally. 3M, IBM, Panasonic, Siemens, and Yamaha are just a few of the major multinational firms based in Vienna.

Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (WU) works in close cooperation with the business world, which affords it rich and practical relevance; Financial Times has ranked WU among Europe's Top 50 business schools. Through an elaborate network of international partners, WU has globally acknowledged expertise in a number of fields including the dynamics of conducting business across the Atlantic and the world. The school is internationally oriented with many visiting international students and professors actively participating in programs that build the foundation and relationships necessary for success.

When selecting a semester exchange program, students should take note of academic calendars that differ significantly from the University of Minnesota. Consider potential conflicts such as holidays, family events, graduation ceremonies, and summer jobs/internships early in the selection process.

Students are enrolled in 15 S/N Carlson School International Business (IBUS 5100) credits for a semester at WU and take a total of 30 ECTS credits at WU to meet the minimum requirements.

Carlson School students join students from more than 175 WU exchange partners around the world and take courses in English. Approximately 80 courses are offered in English every semester and students with a background in German can select from additional courses in that language. An intensive German language course is also available before the beginning of each semester. General areas of study include:

The International Center at WU assists students in applying for on-campus student residence hall accommodations. Information on how and when to apply is provided prior to departure. Exchange students also have the option of independently booking their own off-campus accommodation.

To be eligible for this education abroad program, you must be:

• A University of Minnesota student who has successfully completed the I-Core curriculum or equivalent coursework
• In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Additional criteria may apply

Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Submit a completed application by the February 28th priority deadline prior to the academic year in which you wish to participate. Programs that do not fill following the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.

Admission to all programs is based on review of your application by the study abroad selection committee, and selection notifications are sent out within one month of the priority deadline or receipt of application during rolling admission. Once selected, students are given the opportunity to confirm acceptance, at which point they are subject to Education Abroad policies.
