Abhijeet's research focuses on two domains – (i) operational and strategic issues related to recommender systems, and (ii) operational issues related to knowledge management systems. He has authored four essays as a part of his doctoral rsearch work. The first essay analyzes the impact of providing product recommendations to customers in monopolistic and duopolistic markets. He recognizes conditions under which improving recommender system may decrease the profit of a firm, and provides guidelines to firms on how to strategically price their products in order to maximize their profits when they improve their recommender systems. In two essays, he proposes techniques for improving current recommender systems that provide recommendations using association rules. The proposed methodologies achieve significant improvements in accuracies over traditional methods based on association rules and collaborative filtering for providing product recommendations using transactional datasets. In the fourth essay, he analyzed a competition between a personalizing firm and a non-personalizing firm when a customer can purchase a product recommended by the personalizing firm from either of the firms. He derives conditions when the profits of these firms may increase (or drecrease) and shows that while fixing prices of products, firms should also consider the effcet of recommender system on the customer's choices and the reaction of the competitor.

Currently, apart from coninuing his dissertation research, he is also analyzing several operational issues in knowledge management systems. The context is a company that uses knowledge management system to provide solutions to its field technicians regarding various problems they face while providing services at client sites. In these projects – (i) he empirically analyzes how the characteristics of the knowledge management system impact the rate at which users (field technicians) seek solutions to their problems from the system, and (ii) he analyzes using simulation techniques how to optimally allocate the resources of a support center that are shared between two activities – maintaining the knowledge management system and operating a call center, where the call center is an alternative to the knowledge management system for field technicians.
