Carlson School of Management

Full-Time MBA Global Experience

We promise to take our students inside companies and around the world, because a global perspective and cross-cultural competence are keys to any contemporary business toolkit. By engaging in new business practices and collaborating with professionals trained in different philosophies, you will acquire a new appreciation for the diversity of the global marketplace—and you'll become a stand-out job candidate in the process. Full-Time MBA students explore the global business climate through optional, short-term Global Enrichment trips and a required capstone Global Discovery experience.

Global Discovery

A signature of the Carlson Full-Time MBA Program, our required Global Discovery enriches our students' education and explore topics that have a profound impact on business around the world. Starting in the fall semester of your second year, you will enroll in a course designed as a capstone, and at the start of the spring semester, students will be divided into smaller cohorts to spend two weeks traveling with Carlson School faculty to engage in comparative analysis of global business settings. You'll earn three credits and gain invaluable international experence.

Here's what that timeline looks like in practice:

  • January short-term course of 2 weeks
  • Predeparture coursework
  • Academic sessions and company visits abroad
  • Post-symposium for all participants and faculty

Global Enrichment Programs

These elective, intensive, and accelerated study abroad programs (each just about two weeks long), allow you to explore many facets of a key business topic, expanding on a foundation started here at the Carlson School and continued abroad. Programs are taught entirely in English and offered between regular class sessions—during winter break, May intersession, and summer session. Past students have visited local and multinational firms, while others have completed consulting projects for companies including Toro, Thomson Reuters, and Lenovo. Scholarships are available for Global Enrichment sessions, which have taken students to Brazil, China, Norway, and beyond.
