Corner Bar Networking Opportunity is Back
We know that some of the best networking often happens informally after classes end. To help support community and social opportunities, the MBA Program Office has an agreement with Corner Bar to provide vouchers on a limited-funding basis.
Guidelines for requesting a voucher
- Voucher should not be used for any event associated with departmental units or groups at Carlson such as MBA Association, Part-Time Leadership Board and student clubs.
- A student may only request a voucher, or be listed on a voucher, twice a semester to give as many students as possible the chance to take part in this opportunity.
- Misuse of the vouchers will result in loss of eligibility and/or disciplinary action.
- Vouchers may only be used for food and non-alcoholic menu items.
To request a voucher, identify the date your group of MBAs will be getting together and the names of those in your party. Have a group leader email this information to mbasa@umn.edu for consideration at least 3 business days in advance. If approved, the voucher can be picked up in the MBA Program Office, suite 1-110. The group leader will need to bring your UCard and sign the policy sheet. Learn more by visiting the Student Life website.

Tip of the Week: Brand Me
Branding is essentially differentiating yourself from others, determining what makes you unique. What it means is that you have a profound understanding of who you are, the principles and values by which you live (i.e. character), and what you want to be known for. Brand is authentic not contrived. Creating an authentic brand entails a reflective self assessment - determining your values, strengths and passions. Once you get clear on your Brand, include key points on your resume and business cards.
A second important aspect of Brand is how you portray it to others. You professional image is comprised of your overall appearance, the way you dress, how you carry yourself, your speaking style, your level of eye contact, your way of interacting with others, your hand shake, etc. There are many resources for working on these components of your presence, including working with a coach at the GBCC.
In order to be effective, your Brand must be communicated to the marketplace, whether this be your current place of employment or a prospective employer. In other words, networking! This means attending networking events, getting involved in company wide projects or committees, joining professional organizations, or volunteering. Brand is more important than ever in today's tough economy.
