Objective:
This program focuses on the specific conditions for doing business in Europe and offers students the opportunity to study with international students at a top ranked business university in the heart of the Europe Union. Students take courses from top ranked European faculty in the field of management, political science, and economics. Through company site visits and group work students gain exposure to broad perspectives on the topics in class.

Carlson School Graduate and Senior Level Undergraduate students; classes will be a mix of international students from Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
Credit:
8 graduate elective credits. Grading is S-N basis.
Location:
Cologne is Germany’s fourth largest city, and is a dynamic city of over 10 million people. The cultural and economic capital of Rhineland it has a vibrant art scene and is known throughout Germany for being a major media center.
The University of Cologne is among the Top 10 European MBA programs and has formed strong strategic partnerships with research and commercial leaders in the region. As one of the largest universities in Germany, it offers students unparalleled opportunities. The Cologne International Summer Program (CISP) brings together students from across the world for a unique opportunity to study European Management in an intercultural classroom environment.
Schedule:
The program starts with a city tour and on-site orientation, along with introduction to German “buddies” to assist with orientation. Students take 4 classes Monday – Friday over 4 weeks on topics such as Risk Management, Strategic Marketing, and European Economic Policies. In addition to the academic program, visits with companies and government agencies provide additional perspectives on the course topics. Weekends are free for travel and sightseeing, or exploring Cologne. University of Cologne staff organizes a variety of social activities in Cologne.
Housing and Food:
Students are housed in single rooms at residencies within a close distance to the University. Breakfast is provided. Students have access to the University dining halls for lunch and dinner for an inexpensive fee. To the extent possible, arrangements can be made for an extra fee for students to bring a family member or friend along as a guest.
Costs and Financial Aid:
Participants pay a program fee of $8,000 for tuition directly to the University of Minnesota. This fee covers tuition for 8 credits, international health insurance, course materials, transportation passes in Cologne, and group excursions. Students should budget approximately $1,500 - $2,000 for housing and miscellaneous living expenses. Airfare, personal travel and expenses are not covered by the course fee. Fees are based on estimates and may change due to international economic factors. Financial Aid can be applied to study abroad programs.
Application and Admission:
Visit our website to complete an online application. Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Students will be charged a $50.00 application fee. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis from January 2, 2009 - January 30, 2009. The program may fill before the deadline.
This program is open to Carlson students in good academic standing, with a GPA of 3.0 at the time of application. The application process is competitive, and space is limited. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee and students will be informed of their status within 4 weeks of the application deadline. Once selected, you will be asked to pay a $500 non-refundable deposit in order to confirm your place in the program.
