Objective:
This program offers a comparative perspective of the international business environment from the French and U.S. points of view. Through company site visits and group work students gain exposure to broad perspectives on doing business in the European Union. A diverse group of US and European faculty provide unique perspectives in this multicultural classroom setting.

21 Carlson School Graduate students; classes will be a mix of Carlson and European business students.
Credit:
4 graduate elective credits. Grading is S-N basis.
Location:
Lyon is one of France’s largest cities at over 1.5 million people and is a well known hub of business, commerce, and media in addition to being a beautiful and historic city. Centrally located, Lyon is mere hours from Geneva, Paris, and Nice and hosts the international headquarters of Interpol and EuroNews. As the world’s silk capital, Lyon is a European fashion center and home to a large silk and textile industry. Additionally, the city offers unparalleled opportunities to enjoy the highest of French haute cuisine.
L’Universite Jean Moulin 3 (I.A.E) is the largest business school in France, and regularly hosts international students from their global network of 180 partner schools. The I.A. E. Summer Business Program is over a decade long partnership between the University of Lyon and the Carlson School of Management.
Schedule:
The program starts with a campus tour and on-site orientation. Students take classes Monday – Friday over the 2 weeks on topics ranging from Impact of Globalization on Corporate Strategy to Marketing in Europe. One of the classes will be taught by a Carlson faculty member. Students will have the opportunity to meet with French and Swiss corporate leaders through company site visits as well as a daylong visit to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. The weekend is free for travel and sightseeing, or exploring Lyon. Cultural tours and a dinner with a French family will complement the academic program.
Housing and Food:
Students are housed in double or triple rooms at residencies within a close distance to the University. Breakfast will be provided daily at the hotel. All students will have access to kitchen facilities in the residence. Air conditioning is not guaranteed. To the extent possible, arrangements can be made for an extra fee for students to bring a guest.
Costs and Financial Aid:
Participants pay a $5,100 program fee directly to the University of Minnesota. This fee covers tuition for 4 credits, international health insurance, course materials, lodging, field trip to Geneva and special events in Lyon. Airfare, meals, and personal expenses are not covered by the course fee. Fees are based on estimates and may change due to international economic factors. Financial Aid can be applied to study abroad programs.
Application and Admission:
Visit our website to complete an online application. Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Students will be charged a $50.00 application fee. Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis from January 2 - 30, 2009. The program may fill before the deadline.
This program is open to Carlson students in good academic standing, with a GPA of 3.0 at the time of application. The application process is competitive, and space is limited. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
