Joan T. SmithFellowship

 

The Joan T. Smith Fellowship for the Advancement of Women in Investment Management was established by Ms. Smith is a 1959 Carlson MBA graduate, and because of her sincere appreciation for the education she received at Carlson School of Management, she created this fund at the University of Minnesota Foundation for fellowships for exceptional female MBA students.

Awards will be announced in March 2009 and credits to the recipients student account will be credited for fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters.

Selection criteria:
The Joan T. Smith Fellowship for the Advancement of Women in Investment Management will be awarded to a second-year MBA female student who intends to choose the finance portfolio. Students must also be one of the following: (1) United States citizens, (2) permanent residents of the United States, or (3) in the United States lawfully on a non-temporary basis. In accordance with the preference of the benefactor, a plus factor will be given to students who are Midwest residents: Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, or Montana. Additional preference will be given to students with an undergraduate background in business, economics, or a closely related field.
