Career Treks offer an opportunity for students to get an inside look into companies and careers. Organized and run by the Undergraduate Business Career Center staff, Treks are single- or multi-day trips featuring onsite company visits, distinguished speakers, and alumni panels. These visits introduce CSOM undergraduates to valuable networking contacts, and provide prospective employers with the opportunity to meet a focused group of students.
Goals
The intent of the Treks is to deepen students’ understanding of an industry, and specific companies within those industry sectors. Although many companies do hire students through connections made during a Trek, the goals of the trip are to:
§ Increase awareness of current and future trends in such fields are Investment Banking, Marketing, Consulting, Finance, and others
§ Interact with companies at their site – gain insight into their corporate culture
§ Nurture relationships between participating corporations and CSOM
§ Provide invaluable networking opportunities with potential employers for permanent and internship opportunities
Format & Participation
Most Treks feature onsite company visits where the student group travels directly to a company’s office. Alternatively, a conference may be scheduled where companies and students can interact at a central location. Treks usually include 2-4 visits per day with an area’s best organizations, with each company presenting to the student group for one to two hours. Onsite visits often include a tour of the facility, presentations by recent hires, experienced professionals, and HR personnel, and the opportunity to speak with company representatives in an informal manner.
Cost
While there is no fee to participate in the Treks, students are responsible for their own transportation and lodging expenses.
