Featuring Sean Kurshaw. His lecture will focus on how a new generation is redefining civic leadership. A complimentary lunch will be served following the lecture.
Currently serving as the sixth Citizens League President in the organization's 50 year history, Sean Kershaw has an impressive record of civic duty for the metro area and greater Minnesota. Kershaw's work has touched a variety of different fields. During his position as Deputy Director for the city of St. Paul's Department of Planning and Economic development, Sean chaired Mayor Coleman's e-learning initiative, managed a variety of housing initiatives and led several reorganization efforts aimed to improve teamwork, efficiency and contact with the community. Sean is passionate about active citizenship, civic organizing and creating good public policy.

Guest Speaker: Paul Rusesabagina was the Inspiration for Hotel Rwanda Monday, November 3, 7:30 p.m. - Northrop Memorial Auditorium
Can one person make a difference? Please join us for a special event to welcome the author, Paul Rusesabagina--inspiration for the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda, as he recounts his inspiring story of courage and compassion in the opening days of the Rwandan genocide. His example, which he documents in the book An Ordinary Man, demonstrates how each of us can change our world. Copies of Rusesabagina's novel, An Ordinary Man are available to check-out from International Programs in Carlson School 4-104. This event is free and open to the public.
Breakout Room Announcement Effective 10/27/2008
As of Monday October 27, breakout rooms in the Carlson School of Management building will be secured with card readers 24 hours a day.
• Access will be by authorized U Card only.
• All Carlson students, faculty and staff will be authorized for access to these rooms.
• Students, faculty and staff whose primary academic home is outside the Carlson School will not be given access to these rooms and may not use them unless accompanied by an authorized Carlson user. The equivalent rooms in Hanson Hall will be switched to card access as soon as possible.
These rooms will continue to be governed by the existing reservation system. Carlson students without reservations may use the rooms 24/7, with the following restrictions:
• If someone else has a reservation, the individual with the reservation has precedence.
• If the room is reserved for a class, class usage takes precedence.
• If Facilities Management requests that the room be vacated in order to clean it, users are expected to leave promptly.
• Carlson users who refuse to vacate a room when requested risk loss of access privileges.
In order to provide FM with access for cleaning, reservations will only be taken until 10:00 pm. After that, rooms are on a first-come, first served basis. If it turns out that there is more demand than there are available rooms, reservation hours will be extended. _________________________________________________________________________

Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship: $2,000 E-ternship Program Applications Due November 7
The Deluxe E-ternship Program provides Carlson School undergraduate students with the opportunity to become members of high-potential entrepreneurial teams.
Eligibility:
Students should have junior or senior standing and be enrolled in the entrepreneurship program at the Carlson School of Management.
Student Selection Criteria:
Selection will be based upon demonstrated passion for entrepreneurship, leadership skills, and academic record. An interview must be scheduled for November with Holmes Center staff. Students participating in the entrepreneurial programs and curriculum will receive preference.
For outstanding undergraduates who intend to pursue careers in government, education, the non-profit sector, or elsewhere in public service, and want to make a difference. Applicants must be JUNIORS, U.S. citizens or nationals, with strong academic records, and should be engaged in community service and/or political activism. The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school.

The Office of International Programs and the University Honors Program (Twin Cites campus) are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2009-10 Katherine E. Sullivan Scholarship for Study Abroad. This scholarship provides an opportunity for seniors at any campus of the University of Minnesota to enrich their academic experience with a fifth year of undergraduate study in another country. The scholarship is intended to support credit-bearing and usually classroom-based study abroad that immerses the student in the host university, research institute, or other institution, as well as in the host culture. The University expects to award one or two scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. Proposals should be for full-time study for a full academic year or equivalent. Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates at any University of Minnesota campus; must have senior status (at least 90 credits completed) by the end of Fall semester 2008 with at least 30 credits in residence at a University of Minnesota campus; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and should have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applicants must be available for an in-person interview on the University's Twin Cities campus on February 26, 2009. Sign up for the 3rd annual Burrito Bowl! The flag football tournament and burrito feast will be held on the evening of Thursday, November 6 at Bierman Fields. Costs are $5 for team members and just $3 for spectators (burritos included of course). Teams can consist of 7 - 10 people. Prizes will be raffled off to all participants, and the winning team will earn at least $400! Only 16 teams will play in the tournament, so hurry up!
