(The retreat will be offered to graduate students during the Spring 2009 semester). This interactive, high-energy event becomes a living laboratory of what it takes to work with people from different cultures. Participants start friendships with people from all over the world and discover their own leadership potential. A cutting edge cross-cultural leadership model, Personal Leadership, will be used to develop participants' cross cultural skill-set that is needed for professional and personal lives in the 21st century.

Can one person make a difference? Please join us for a special event to welcome the author, Paul Rusesabagina, inspiration for the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda, as he recounts his inspiring story of courage and compassion in the opening days of the Rwandan genocide. His example, which he documents in the book An Ordinary Man, demonstrates how each of us can change our world. Copies of Rusesabagina's novel, An Ordinary Man are available to check-out from International Programs in suite 4-104 Carlson. This event is free and open to the public.

We offer concentrations and specializations in Public and Non-Profit Management and Leadership, Community and Economic Development, Social Policy, Policy Analysis, Global Public Policy (including International Development), Science, Technology and Environmental Policy, Women and Public Policy, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, Land Use and Urban Design, Housing and Community Development, and Regional, Economic and Workforce Development. University of Minnesota Study Abroad Scholarship Deadline: Wednesday, October 22
Each year the University of Minnesota distributes approximately $500,000 for study abroad scholarships. The scholarship deadline for Winter Break 2009, Spring Semester 2009, and Calendar Year 2009 is Wednesday, October 22. The application can be used to apply for the Study Abroad Scholarship, Diversity in Study Abroad Scholarship, and the Access Abroad Scholarship.
Selection of scholarship recipients is not based on financial need or merit, but rather the essays that each student writes. Currently one-third of all students who apply receive a scholarship. If you are a student who will be studying abroad for Winter Break 2009, Spring Semester 2009, or Calendar Year 2009, visit the Learning Abroad Center’s scholarship webpage at umabroad.umn.edu/financial/scholarships/uofmScholarships.html.
