Ambassador Program Information Sessions

The Undergraduate program is currently seeking freshman and transfer students to represent the school as an undergraduate ambassador. Join this competitive, leader driven group of student for the 2008-2009 school year. Applications and additional information is available and should be submitted in the Undergraduate Program office Hanson Hall 2-190. Information sessions are scheduled for Friday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m., and Friday September 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Hanson Hall 1-122.

Volunteers Needed for the Fall Career and Internship Fair!
Tuesday, September 16, McNamara Alumni Center
The Carlson School’s Fall Career and Internship Fair takes place on Tuesday, September 16 and volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, clean-up, registration, and various other tasks on the day of the event. Volunteers are needed to fill two-hour time slots beginning at 8:00 a.m. and lasting until 3:00 p.m.  Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are all welcome and encouraged to volunteer.
 This is a great opportunity to get involved in Carlson School activities and network with fellow students and company recruiters and is conveniently located at McNamara Alumni Center, two minutes from the Superblock.  If you are interested, please send an e-mail with your name and availability to Laura Nickolay at nick0125@umn.edu as soon as possible.  

Community Involvement Fair
Wednesday, September 17, 10:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Coffman Union, Great Hall

You can make a difference in your community! This annual event is an opportunity for students to learn about volunteer and internship opportunities in the Twin Cities. Talk to representatives from more than 80 organizations to find a position that matches your major or interests.
There will also be several workshops offered during this year's fair. A $100 gift certificate to U of M Bookstores will be given away at the event! The 2008 Community Involvement Fair is supported by the U of M Bookstores and the Minnesota Daily.

Want Access to the New Carlson Student Lounge?
To avoid losing access to the lounge, upgrade your UCard immediately.
Exchange your UCard for the new “smart” UCard in Coffman by September 19.


Access to the undergraduate lounge and break out rooms will require an UCard with “smart” capabilities. If you are an undergraduate Carlson student and you need to pick-up a new UCard before Friday, September 19th. Please visit the UCard office located in Coffman Union before the deadline. We’ve negotiated with the UCard office so that exchanging your current UCard for the new smart UCard will cost absolutely nothing. Only if you have lost your UCard will you be charged to replace it. Please note that students admitted for Fall 2008 have already been provided a smart UCard. Smart Cards have a blue and white HID logo on the back side top left corner of the ID.

Stop by the Undergraduate Program Office (Hanson Hall 2-190) to rent a locker for the academic school year. Cost is $20 (cash or check) for the year; please have your student ID with you. Half and full size lockers are available.


ACADEMICS

Apply for Your Degree
If you are completing your degree this Fall you must apply to graduate by Tuesday, September 16. The online undergraduate degree application is available on the OneStop web site under the Degree Planning link. Fall graduates will be invited to participate in the May 2009 Commencement Ceremony.


Compete in the Nationwide Fisher Biz Quiz Challenge

Represent the Carlson School and compete among top business schools at The Ohio State University of the 3rd annual Biz Quiz Challenge. This unique opportunity provides students with an eight week subscription to the Wall Street Journal that students are "quizzed" on at the competition. The competition is televised in Ohio and contestants are eligible to win numerous prizes and scholarships. A complete application includes a resume and paragraph describing your interest in the event. Applications are due Friday, September 19th by 4:30 p.m.

Case Competition for Seniors: Register by September 22

Compete in the 2008 Carlson Senior Case competition on Friday September 26th for the chance to represent the Carlson school at one of numerous international case competitions. Locations include Texas, Arizona, and California. Travel expenses paid for by the Undergraduate Program office. Register in the Undergraduate program office with a team of four by Monday September 22. Contact Brent Opall at opall001@umn.edu for more information.

The John T. Petters Foundation is pleased to announce an additional scholarship application round for 2008. The deadline for fall submission is Monday, September 15.
