Welcome!
The MBA program office welcomes you to the start of our spring 2009 semester! We hope to see you at the various events and activities throughout the semester. The MBA bulletin board, located outside of the MBA program office, (suite 1-110) lists the latest news and events for the semester as well as the spring 2009 course schedules. Stop by the MBA program office during our office hours to meet with us and to get any of your questions answered.

Entrepreneurial Bootcamp
Saturday, January 31, Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., program running from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Carlson School
This one-day session will feature investor and entrepreneur perspectives on a range of emerging market opportunities including wind, energy conservation, bio fuels, and solar.   Attendance is not open to the public and is strictly limited to the first 40 MBA students. RSVP (and questions) to jkahl@umn.edu is required by TODAY in order to receive advance reading materials. Include the order of interest in these categories: solar, wind, biomass, efficiency/conservation.

MILI Student Association Spring 2009 General Assembly
Wednesday, January 21, noon - 1 p.m., and 5-5:45 p.m.
This spring kick-off assembly is open to all students interested in the unique business characteristics of healthcare and the medical industry. At this meeting students will learn about the organization, its purpose and the calendar of events planned for spring 2009. Located in CSOM 1-127. For more information please visit, www.milisa.org

MBAA Executive Committee Elections
Online elections begin Friday, January 23
Nominees for the MBAA President position should submit statements of interest to mbaa@umn.edu before midnight on Wednesday, January 21.The online election for the MBAA President will begin at noon on Friday, January 23. Nominees for the Vice President positions should submit statements of interest no later than midnight on Wednesday, January 28. Vice President elections will begin Friday, January 30. More information will be distributed via email.

Timberwolves vs. New Orleans
Friday, January 23

The MBA programs office will host a Timberwolves outing for MBA students and their guests. The event is $10 per person and includes a game ticket, tour of the corporate facilities, a meeting with the Timberwolves president, and a picture on center court. Senior Associate Director of MBA Admissions, Dan Bursch, will also be singing the National Anthem!  Sign up in the MBA Programs office, suite 1-110. Deadline is Wednesday, January 21. China Road: A Journey into the Future of a Rising Power
Saturday, January 24, Tedd Mann Concert Hall, 4 p.m.

Internationally acclaimed National Public Radio correspondent Rob Gifford will speak about his 3,000-mile journey across China, passing through virtually every part of the social and economic revolution the country is undergoing. In addition to the lecture, there will be an opportunity to buy Gifford's book and have him sign it. There will also be a great New Year celebration with Chinese food and door prizes. Student Mailboxes have Relocated!
All student mailboxes have moved from the MBA programs office into the Master's student lounge, effective Monday, January 19. Remember you will need your Ucard at all times in order to access the student lounge.

Upcoming Diversity Conference & Career Expo
Multicultural Forum; Applications due Feb. 9
The 21st Annual Multicultural Form On Workplace Diversity will be held March 3-4, at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. The Office of Diversity Initiatives is offering 10 conference fellowships for students to attend the Forum and Career Expo on Wednesday, March 4. Appetizers on Us at Corner Bar!
We know that some of the best networking often happens informally after classes end. To help support community and social opportunities, the MBA programs office has arranged an agreement with Corner Bar to provide students with a voucher to purchase food or non-alcoholic beverages. All you need to do is identify the date your group of MBAs will be getting together and the names of those in your party. Have a group leader email this information to Jessica McLain, mclai003@umn.edu, for consideration at least 2 days in advance. If approved, the voucher can be picked up in the MBA programs office, suite 1-110.

IT Student Services: Carlson Building Updated with New Wireless Infrastructure!
After a successful pilot of the new wireless infrastructure at Hanson Hall, Central Network and Telecom Services has upgraded the Carlson building with the same technology. Given that both buildings offer this new technology IT Student Services HIGHLY recommend students configure the UofM Secure connection for the semester. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School International Business Plan Competition
Submissions due by February 2
The upcoming 2009 HKUST MBA International Business Plan Competition will be held April 2-4. All MBA students are invited to submit business plan proposals for consideration of participation. Submit a 5-7 page executive summary of your business plan by email attachment by Monday, February 2, for full consideration. Submissions should be emailed to the HKUST contest at: hkustbp@ust.hk. Indicate "HKUST MBA International Business Plan Contestant" in the subject line.
