ACADEMICS IDSC 6490: The Business of Blogs, Wikis, and Online Social Networks
(B Term, 5:45-9:05 p.m., Tuesday; 2 credits)
What is Web 2.0? Is it a fad or a set of principles with lasting business values? Where is the money in it? How can firms use Web 2.0 technologies to harness the wisdom of crowds to innovate, to engage consumers, and to encourage collaboration? Many firms spend large amounts of money to host online communities and fail. Why? What can your firms do to succeed? In this course we work together to answer these questions through a combination of readings, discussion, case analyses, and hands-on projects. Canadian Leadership Program Deadline Friday, February 6 The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa has invited Carlson to nominate a student to participate in the Canadian Leadership Orientation Program, a week long program May 31-June 5, 2009 on Canada-U.S. Business and Economic linkages for MBA students from over 20 leading U.S. business schools. Holly Kellar was our representative last year and is willing to speak with interested students about her experience. We know that some of the best networking often happens informally after classes end. To help support community and social opportunities, the MBA programs office has arranged an agreement with Corner Bar to provide students with a voucher to purchase food or non-alcoholic beverages. All you need to do is identify the date your group of MBAs will be getting together and the names of those in your party. Have a group leader email this information to Jessica McLain, mclai003@umn.edu, for consideration at least 2 days in advance. If approved, the voucher can be picked up in the MBA programs office, suite 1-110.
