Carlson School Night on Ice - All Welcome

If you, your parents, or your grandparents work at Radisson, TGI Fridays, Carlson Marketing Group, Park Inn, Park Plaza, Country Inns & Suites, the Carlson Companies, or another Carlson Companies subsidiary, you may apply for the Carlson Companies Scholarship, BUT YOU CANNOT APPLY ONLINE. You must complete a separate application for this award before April 1. Applications are available in the Undergrad Office in Hanson Hall. The Carlson School's late benefactor, Curtis L. Carlson established this full-tuition scholarship for Carlson Companies employees and their families.

Junior and Senior International Business and Trade Majors- Semester in Washington

American University’s Kogod School of Business – Washington Semester Program is inviting 75 junior and senior undergraduate students majoring in International Business and Trade from around the world to apply for the prestigious sixty year old program of experiential learning in International Business and Trade starting August 2009.

Students will have the opportunity to interact with the newly elected president’s economic team in the White House, State Department, Treasury Department, Commerce Department, US- Trade Representatives, Federal Reserve Board and US Export Import Bank. Elected representatives of important committees in the United State Congress and senior officials of International Development organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Inter-American Development Bank are also included in this program. New York Marketing Trek - Wednesday, March 11 - 13

Looking for an internship/career outside of the Midwest? Want to travel and learn about global companies? Join us on our 2nd annual New York Marketing Trek! The trip will take place March 11-13 before Spring Break. Over the course of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we will be having site visits to roughly 10 companies looking at marketing in the fashion/beauty, media/entertainment and advertising industries. Some of the companies include Coach, L'Oreal, Ralph Lauren, ESPN, MTV, Brand Buzz and RGA. Thursday night will also be a networking event with Carlson School alumni working in New York that will be available to answer any questions you may have about what their jobs are like, what it's like living in New York, etc.

As a student, you will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements and providing for food and lodging. The BCC will cover the Networking event and will be booking rooms for all of the students to stay. PLEASE NOTE: The BCC will not be paying for your hotel room, and you are able to make your own lodging arrangements apart from the group if you prefer, but we will be blocking rooms for all of the students to stay together in one hotel if they choose.

Be sure you're using a current version of Internet Explorer. Interested in attending an info session or career workshop? Please be sure to RSVP for the event under "Career Events". Find the event you're interested in and click on the event title. Next, click on the button titled "RSVP to Event".

Would you like to receive automatic emails when a new external job posting is approved that fits your criteria? If so, follow these steps in The Edge:

1. Go to the menu item named External Job Postings and click on Job and Internship Search

2. Select your preferred criteria (for example = All Degrees Considered) and click on Search

3. In this next page (the search results page), click on Save Search

4. A pop-up will appear asking to name your saved search and to opt in or out of an automatic email. It says "Please send me an e-mail when any new jobs matching this search are available."

5. You will be emailed every time a new job is posted with the criteria you've selected. For help email: The Edge at: edgehelp@umn.edu

National Rec Sports and Fitness Day - Open to All Students
Monday, February 23, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. University Recreation Center

Join us at the Rec for a day of fun and excitement while learning about offerings from Rec Sports. The day is sponsored by UPS who will feature demonstrations from Judo, Group Fitness Classes, Yoga and more along with numerous yard games in the aquatics lobby, free group fitness classes that day and water aerobics classes all week long. Plus—there will be IM-type tournaments, registration same day, and they take place the following weekend including volleyball and basketball. If you give us 10 minutes of your time in a survey, there will be a variety of prizes awarded including a spring FitPass and a Summer Membership. A Twin Cities Chapter of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance & Accounting) is close to being officially recognized!

The kickoff event for the chapter will be March 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the corporate headquarters for United Health Group (near 169 & 62 in Minnetonka). Any interested students are welcome to attend. This is a great opportunity to learn more about ALPFA and to network with accounting and finance professionals in the Twin Cities.
