GBCC Tip of the Week
Sometimes a company culture, an industry, or a functional area can fall short of our career expectations. When this happens, it is important to make the most of the situation and create a plan for your ultimate success. First, list all the resources you can take advantage of while you are in your current role. Actively meet people in other parts of the organization to expand your network and learn what other functions may offer you down the road. Develop or contact existing mentors and discuss your career path, as well as career transition resources. Look outside of the workplace to meet some of your needs - volunteering, professional associations, and non-profit board involvement are all good options. Seek out available training - technical or soft skills, internal or external. Lastly, even when things aren't perfect, chances are you are still learning. Focus on a skill set you can develop in your current role that will transfer well when the right opportunity is available.
