Academic Advising

Academic advising is a critical part of your undergraduate experience at the Carlson School. We're here to help you set goals and guide you through the numerous opportunities available to you at the University. We'll make sure you stay on track for graduation without losing sight of how your individual goals fit into your educational experience.

Career Services

At Carlson, you have access to a world-class career center dedicated to undergraduate business students. The Undergraduate Business Career Center (UBCC) provides a required career skills course, career discovery, a mentorship program, and an online internship and full-time employment website built specifically for Carlson business students. No need to worry about fighting traffic or getting lost on the way to an interview. With 22 on-campus interview rooms and 19 Fortune 500 companies right here in our backyard, many interviews are held in Hanson Hall.

Technology

While you are at Carlson, IT Student Services (ITSS) provides a laptop program, computer lab resources, technical support, and IT training.

Laptop Program

To take full advantage of the Carlson School's collaborative learning environment, we strongly recommend that students purchase a laptop through the Carlson School Laptop Program. Program participants enjoy a four-year warranty, on-site support and many other benefits included in the package price.

 

IT Spaces

Student Technology Center - Carlson L-112
The Student Technology Center (STC) is a hybrid space that provides both technical support and computer lab resources. All of our Standard and many of our Plus services are readily available in this location (see IT Services below).

Laptop Repair Center - Hanson L-103
The Laptop Repair Center (LRC) is our premiere location for providing laptop specific technical support. This location has all the tools to deliver our Plus and Premiere services (see IT Services below).


Learning Lab - Hanson L-102
The Learning Lab is a computer lab space designed to facilitate collaborative work. To this end, it incorporates both dedicated work stations and powered tables designed with laptops in mind.

 

IT Services

Standard Services
These are available to all Carlson students and consist of services such as basic troubleshooting support, connectivity assistance, and general IT questions and information. These services are provided through the Student Technology Center (Carlson L-112) and the Laptop Repair Center (Hanson L-103)


Plus Services
These are also available to all Carlson students. Our Plus services are where IT Student Services begins to differentiate itself from typical IT service providers. These services consist of things such as malware detection and removal, in depth OS troubleshooting, basic hardware diagnostics, and equipment checkout. Certain services such as malware detection are only provided through the Laptop Repair Center, whereas the equipment checkout service is only available at the Student Technology Center.

Premiere Services

Our Premiere services encompass all of the benefits that can only be provided by membership in our laptop program: vendor on-site certified repair, comprehensive hardware diagnostics and stocked parts replacement, and our data backup/re-imaging/data restore process. Our Premiere services are only available at the Hanson Laptop Repair Center and only to Laptop Program Members.

 

IT Training

While attending the Carlson School, you have the opportunity to take in-depth training in software such as Excel and Access by signing up for a training session at no extra cost. Sessions are available throughout the year for up to 20 people per session and for different skill levels. Training is currently available for Microsoft Office 2007 versions of Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word, and Project.

Undergraduate Laptop Program

Carlson undergraduate students have the option of buying a supported laptop through the undergraduate laptop program or bringing their own. Carlson IT Student Services provides all inclusive, on-site support for laptops purchased through the program.
